FyberSearch Releases GhetoSearch to Help People Find Hidden and Potentially Useful Web Pages
 October 12th, 2005 at 12:00am
FyberSearch announces the release of the search engine GhetoSearch, allowing people to find hidden and potentially useful web pages by reversing the FyberSearch link popularity based ranking algorithm.

Burien, Wash. - October 12th, 2005 -- FyberSearch has released a new search engine called GhetoSearch (http://www.ghetosearch.com) that allows Internet users to find potentially useful information that cannot be found in most search engines because they only display the 1,000 most popular websites. GhetoSearch reveals what these search engines have kept hidden from the world... until now.

GhetoSearch works by reversing FyberSearch's link popularity based ranking algorithm so that the last result is displayed first, the second to last result is displayed second, and so forth. This has several effects on the quality and type of search results people are presented with. One of the effects is that searchers will receive more results from domain names they have never heard of before. Another effect is that searchers will find useful resources they never would have known existed.

GhetoSearch is compatible with the large collection of advanced features that are available on FyberSearch's general web search engine. The only catch is that the results are still reversed... so users will receive some very unusual results when using the advanced features.

"I like GhetoSearch. Even when I don't think the results are accurate, many of them are entertaining to read because of their extreme irrelevance" Says Nathan Enns, the Founder & Managing Member of FyberSearch. "GhetoSearch proves FyberSearch's ranking algorithm is capable of returning popular results, finds hidden documents that no one would have known about otherwise and is good for a laugh because it flips the web that people are used to seeing upside down. It is definitely Ghetto."

Theoretical Questions:

At first glance the results at GhetoSearch may seem more irrelevant to many people when compared to normal search engines. One wonders if the results returned by GhetoSearch are really less relevant or if they are simply less popular and/or unusual, thus appearing to be less relevant? We aren't actually sure yet. We do know that the definition of relevancy varies depending on who you ask and that link popularity does not equal relevancy in all cases. For example, if someone would like to find an official website for a brand name then link popularity is great, but what about when someone would like to find informational material about a specific subject? The most popular resource may not be the best or most accurate resource. In fact, there are many instances of the human race being collectively wrong about an issue even when they are faced with proof that they are wrong. We hope GhetoSearch will help answer these questions, or at least get people thinking about them.
